About
Us
The PMI® Consulting Specific Interest
Group is a nonprofit corporation chartered under the Project
Management Institute. Our organization is made up of project
management consultant professionals who share the unique
challenges of delivering solutions and providing results
in their consulting work through project management.
Consulting services, a $125 billion global market, refers
to both the practice of helping organizations to improve
performance through analysis of existing business problems
and development of appropriate solutions. Our members provide
services from the transfer the transfer of best practices,
analytic techniques, change management and leadership skills
to technology implementations, strategy development and
implementation. Consulting services provided are achieved
through the application of project management methodologies.
Our members generally bring formal frameworks or methods
to identify problems or suggest more effective or efficient
ways of performing business or organizational tasks. They
may work for small or large consulting firms providing services
to external clients, work as internal consultants within
their own organization, or may be independent solo practitioners
of project management consulting. As more and more work
is being accomplished through projects, project management
consulting is becoming more prevalent in nonbusiness related
fields as well. As the need for professional and specialized
advice grows, industries such as government, quasi-government
and not-for-profit agencies are turning to the same project
management principles that have helped the private sector
for years.
No matter the context in which we provide help, the discipline
of organizing and managing resources in such a way that
these resources deliver value to our clients is essential.
While our projects are often temporary and one-time endeavors
undertaken to create a unique product or service, the beneficial
change or added value to our stakeholders and clients cannot
be underestimated.
Our professionals are at the forefront of implementing new
technology, practices, and policies within our organizations
and we are agents for organizational change.
