PMI® Consulting Specific Interest Group                                                                           January 2007

Message from the Chair

This is my first Connections article as the new Chair of the Consulting SIG. The beginning of a new year is a traditional time to assess and plan. We enter 2007 in very good shape thanks to the leadership of Frank Parth, the 2006 Chair.

The new programs from last year (e.g., the Mentoring Program and the Roadmap Newsletter) will continue along with other programs, such as periodic webinars. Based on our Washington, DC area meeting in December, we will look at the feasibility of forming Local Interest Groups (LIGs) in metropolitan areas where we have a large number of members. We will also evaluate our web site.

We have a diverse base of over 2,800 members. A little over half of our members work for either large or small consulting firms. The remainder is primarily composed of internal consultants and independent consultants. Almost half of our members are PMPs. Although we have members located in all parts of the world, most are based in North America.

A key question is how to continue to bring value to our diverse membership. About half of our officers will continue from last year. We also have newly elected board members from last fall's election who will bring new ideas and new perspectives on old ideas. We also need your input. What will bring you value? You can send your comments to me at chair@consultingsig.org. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Bill Craddock, PMP
Consulting SIG Chair

Pervasive Learning Solutions to Offer Two-day Seminar
"Leading and Implementing Change Without Pain"

Eric Abrahamson, Executive Consultant and Professor of Management, Columbia Business School, presents Leading and Implementing Change Management. In this two-day seminar, participants learn how to thrive in a rapidly changing and highly uncertain environment, gain insight into a current change initiative within their organization, and immediately begin to apply their learning to make progress with a current pressing issue. The Change Management module focuses on the Idea-to-Action methodology to help executives and managerial teams translate broad strategic ideas into concrete action plans – plans that specify who will do what, by when, and with what results.
