Parting Message from the Chair

This will be my last message as your chair. Starting in January, Bill Craddock will take the chairmanship role assisted by Drew Marshall as the incoming co-chair.

As I write this I’m reminded of how much great work was done by the board members. Nothing gets started or finished without the board members initiating the effort and ensuring it gets done. Without Mohammad Iqbal we would have had no mentoring program. Without Drew Marshall we would have no quarterly newsletter and monthly Connections (and probably a still-ineffectual web site). Without Bill Craddock, no usable by-laws. Without Albert Matha, no marketing plan. These and the other board members and all of our volunteers are what makes this SIG move forward.

This has been a great year for the Consulting SIG. Our membership has grown, we’ve built out the web site so that we can offer you more services (and we have great plans for enhancements to it), we started both a mentoring initiative and a new quarterly newsletter.

There are so many things we want to do. Our vision of what can be offered is unlimited. The only thing slowing us down is getting enough volunteers. For a few small hours a month you can help your Consulting SIG grow and get both personal recognition and satisfaction as well as increasing your network.

I will be stepping into the role of component mentor. There are two component mentors (Kent Hamblen is the other one) who represent the SIGs and Colleges to PMI Global. Our job is to improve coordination and communications between PMI and the components.

Thanks to all of our officers, volunteers, and our membership for making this a great SIG.

Frank Parth
Soon-to-be Ex-Chair

Consulting SIG Sponsors Networking Meeting in Washington DC

The Consulting SIG's membership is spread around the globe, making face-to-face interaction between members very difficult. Recognizing the importance of such interactions, however, the SIG Board of Directors plans to start Local Interest Groups (LIGs) at various cities with significant SIG membership, such as London, Los Angeles, and Washington DC.

To explore the formation of a LIG, the Consulting SIG arranged a networking meeting in Washington DC for its current members and those interested in joining the SIG. The meeting was held at the Bailey's Pub in Arlington, VA and was also attended by several members of the SIG Board of Directors (BoD) and members from the Washington DC Chapter.

Those in attendance expressed a strong interest in continuing networking meetings. Several potential members were impressed by the services offered by the SIG and showed an interest in joining the SIG.

The SIG BoD is exploring the possibility of holding monthly dinners in Washington DC to provide our members an opportunity to network with each other.

The SIG BoD is also interested in hosting similar meetings in other cities with significant SIG membership. If you are interested in coordinating a networking meeting in your area, please contact the SIG Chair.
